Is This a Personal Matter?

Private equity executives’ personal benefits

In addition to annual average compensation of US $2 million or more, private equity firms offer their executives a variety of benefits that are largely personal and often include:

  • Apartment search
  • Concierge medical services
  • School search for children
  • Tax preparation services
  • Visa processing
  • Abortion-related travel reimbursement
  • Mindfulness and wellness webinars
  • Fertility treatment
  • Business class tickets for family home leave
  • Yoga Classes
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Fitness club memberships
  • Adoption and surrogacy stipends

Key Considerations:

  • There is no objection to employer involvement in highly personal employee matters that have little or nothing to do with work.
  • An ethical executive would demand a program that guaranteed a way to lawfully hire a domestic worker.
  • An ethical executive would see such a program not as an obligation but as a valuable perk.
  • Any objection to such a program raises serious questions about the commitment of these firms and executives to ethical and lawful conduct.
